Inis Oírr to Fanore Swim Completed and Raises €9,032 for Galway Autism Partnership

We are delighted to share some fantastic news in relation to our fundraiser for Galway Autism Partnership. Our staff member and my eldest son, Gary has completed the swim from Inis Oírr to Fanore on Sunday, 23rd August, the fundraising page has now closed with an incredible €9,032 raised.

A massive thank you to everyone who donated and supported  the fundraising and training. We would also like to give a special thanks to Canon Ireland, Quantex Ireland and HER Photographic for their very generous donations.

The swim itself went well on the day, setting off alongside the crew from Galway Swim Pilots, as well as friends Brian McDonagh and Donnacha Fahy, leaving the docks in Galway at 6:00am.

The swim took approximately 6 hours, covering a distance of just under 17km. We were very lucky with the conditions on the day, swimming into a light north-easterly wind with water temperatures of around 17°C.

We would also like to give a major thanks to the long-distance swimming community in Galway and around the country. This was Garys first marathon swim, and the advice, encouragement and support received from people who have completed numerous tough challenges like this — and even harder ones — was a massive help. Their experience and encouragement were a great source of motivation throughout the last year.

A huge thank you also goes to the Galway Swim Pilots crew, who provided fantastic support and knowledge of the waters in and around Galway Bay.

Finally, thank you to Brian and Donnacha for being  part of the support crew on the day, the slagging on the feeds was a huge help for making it a memorable experience.
