This blog is aimed at people that have a dslr or mirrorless dslr camera and wish to add to their kit. We are picking a handful of some of the typical lenses you would find it a hobbyist photographers camera bag.
- The nifty fifty:
These are what are an example of a prime lens, which means it has no zoom. The nigfty 50mm lens will typically come in either a 1.8 aperture or 1.4 aperture. The 1.4 aperture lens will be a bit more expensive and offers a shallower depth of field.
The 50mm prime lens is ideal for portrait photography. The lower aperture number give shallower depth of field which will blur the background making your subjects really “pop”.

These are lenses that have a wider field of view. They are ideal for beach photography where you want to capture a big sky, or for days out in the Burren or Connemara and you want to try get as much of the scenery in as possible. They are also a useful lens for interior or architechtural photography.

There are a wide variety of zoom telephoto lenses on the market ranging in price depending on budget. Zoom lenses are very useful for capturing wildlife photos, or sports photos from your local soccer, gaa, rugby club etc..These lenses are great for candid portraits. For example at a wedding you could take a photo of a group in conversation and the portrait would have a very natural feel to it.
